International Museum Day

International Museum Day has been celebrated every year on May 18 since 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Within the scope of International Museum Week, which is also supported by UNESCO, various events are organized around the world to highlight the social role of museums.

The theme of International Museum Week 2026 has been designated as "Museums Uniting a Divided World" This theme emphasizes the unifying role museums undertake in the face of increasingly deep cultural, social, and geographical divisions in today's world. As trusted public spaces and places of learning, museums foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and a culture of coexistence by building bridges among different generations, communities, and cultures.

In line with the 2026 theme, various events will be organized at the METU Archaeology Museum under the title "Uniting Museum" Through activities focusing on archaeology, cultural heritage, collective memory, and contemporary risks, the program aims to draw attention to the unifying power of shared human stories extening from the past to the present.

Please find attached the program of events organized by the METU Archaeology Museum within the scope of International Museum Week.

We would be delighted by your valuable participation.
